Past Scholarship Recipients
Edward Friedman
Edward Friedman is a Macauly Honors student majoring in Political Science with Certificates in Public Policy and Human Rights. Committed to improving access for people with disabilities, he has interned at Human Rights Watch, the New York City Council, and the Mayor’s office for People with Disabilities. He is also a member of the Hunter College Senate, New York City Transit’s Paratransit Advisory Committee, and the Junior Board of INCLUDEnyc, a not-for-orofit organization that supports young adults and their families in New York City. Edward plans to obtain a joint JD/MPP to continue to advocate for the rights of people with disabilities.
Sydney Hershenhorn
After graduation, Sydney Hershenhorn will be attending New York Law School with a cumulative $120,000 scholarship. She aims to continue the research on food access in New York City, and hopes to bring her knowledge into the public sphere. She has worked at the world ranked farm to table restaurant Blue Hill at Stone Barns, and hopes to continue interning there to gain more knowledge about sustainable farming practices.
Florimond le groupil-maier
Florimond Le Groupil-Maier is a junior at Hunter College majoring Political Science and Mandarin. He was recently awarded the U.S. Department of State Critical Language Scholarship to study Mandarin in Suzhou. When he returns in the fall, he will be interning at Kaiser, a New York based government relations firm. He is currently a Research Fellow for the LGBT Social Scene and Public Policy Center a Roosevent House and previously served as a Research Intern at the Office of New Work City Council Member Dan Garodnick. Florimond also interned this spring at Global Futures Group - which spearheaded the Smart Cities Conference NYC in 2017. In the future, he seeks to hone in on the possible fusion between technology and policy as a way to increase the overall well-being, inclusion, and happiness of people in cities around the world.
Jessica Sirico
Jessica Sirico is a rising junior at Hunter College majoring in Political Science from Westchester, New York. She double majors in Political Science and Women & Gender Studies and minors in Human Rights. She is passionate about social justice causes, particularly LGBTQ+ issues and Women's rights. She previously interned for Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer, and currently works at Hunter's LGBT+ Social Science and Public Policy Center. She also works as a research assistant, doing work on the right to food and environmental justice. She has volunteered with the NYCLU for two years and is part of the Thomas Hunter Honors Program. Jessica credits the Blumenthal Award for providing the support needed to continue her education as a first generation college student, and helping her on her path toward public service work.
