The Albert H. Blumenthal Public Service Award
The Albert H. Blumenthal Public Service Award at Hunter College has been crucial in helping civically minded students articulate what specifically about public service and the prospect of one day running for office motivates them. The opportunity to meet with the Blumenthal family and learn more about the incredible life of service Mr. Blumenthal led has truly allowed our students to envision the possible impact they wish to leave on society, which also embodies the Hunter motto and spirit: Mihi Cura Futuri - "the care of the future is mine".
Prospective applicants must contact the Chair of the Political Science Department, Carolyn Somerville, at the beginning of the spring semester regarding interest in applying for the award. She will provide the essay prompt upon request and submission of the essays will be due at the end of March. Students will be notified shortly after Spring break in late April if they have been selected to receive the award. A condition of accepting the award would be the students agreeing to participate in an award luncheon prior to the end of the semester to meet the Blumenthal family. The timeline is the following:
February 1, 2019: Students contact Carolyn Somerville directly about their interest in the award
March 31, 2019: Essays and bios are due
End of April: Selection of awardees.
2nd week of May: Award ceremony/lunch
